How to Use Tools in No Rest For the Wicked
Tools are Equipment that you'll be using in order to harvest resources from various sources in the game. You will be using pickaxes to get ores from ore deposits, axes to chop trees up for their wood, and fishing rods to gather resources from bodies of water. You'll have to interact with these various sources with the relevant Tool equipped, and then keep using it until the bar fully depletes.
When you start out you'll find some worn-down Tools. You'll notice that using them for resources takes a bit of time. However, you'll be able to get better versions of these Tools as you progress the game, which will make harvesting these ingredients quicker.
