Cooking is a feature in No Rest For The Wicked that lets the Cerim prepare their meals using a Fire Pit. Fire Pits are found in strategic locations that can be accessed using the (Y) button to show the available meal recipes that can be cooked. The cooked meals are best consumed in combat to replenish Health and Focus in the middle of the fight, and the recipe list can be expanded by learning new ones. Cooking requires gathering all ingredients and each meal will have different ingredients.
Cooking Guide for No Rest for the Wicked
How to Cook in No Rest for the Wicked
Cooking can be done by interacting with a Fire Pit. Meals are best prepared before a journey and is recommended to bring as many as the gathered ingredients will allow. Cooking in a Fire Pit is accessed by pressing the (Y) button and will show the Fire Pit menu, with the screen showing all available recipes. Aside from procuring the required ingredients, there is no limit to the number of meals you can prepare in a Fire Pit.
The Fire Pits will have an icon that looks like this on the Map.
The available recipes can be found by accessing the Fire Pit menu. Since the meals don't have a weight limit on them, the Cerim can carry as much as they need before leaving the Fire Pit. The recipe list can be expanded as you explore and find them as loot, or buy them from Vendors. When picked up, recipes are not automatically learned, so you need to go to your Inventory tab and press the Learn command.
Where to Find Recipes in No Rest for the Wicked
The first cooking recipe known to the Cerim is the Mushroom Meal and it can be prepared by going to the Fire Pit. Isola Sacra is rich in ingredients and recipes alike, and the Cerim must strive to learn these recipes that can provide heals in combat. Recipes can be found either from opening chests or buying from Vendors. The developers of No Rest for the Wicked announced that loots are randomized so there's no specific area where you can get certain recipes. All you have to do is to keep looking for them and expand the recipe list.
- Recipes can be found by opening chests or by buying them from Vendors
- A learned recipe will show up at the Fire Pit and can be prepared as long as you have the ingredient
- A recipe is not automatically learned after obtaining them. Go to the Inventory tab and choose the learn option.
Gathering Ingredients
While exploring the vast world of Isola Sacra, the environment is teeming with raw ingredients and materials. Players can gather ingredients by picking herbs, gathering, fishing, etc. These are activities that can be done outside of combat so that you will be uninterrupted. Ingredients are also easy to spot and there's a cue on-screen to pick them up.
- Gather from plants or ground
- Fishing
- Loot from enemies or chests
Why Cooking Is Important in No Rest for the Wicked
Each of the meals will have different effects on the Cerim when consumed. Some of them can replenish both Health and Focus, while there are others like the Mushroom Soup that will only restore a portion of Health. This shows how important it is for the Cerim to cook before they set out on their journey so they can replenish their health as needed. Some enemies pose a lot of threats, especially Bosses. Meals will come in handy when you find yourself in a pinch and you can even carry as much as you like because there is no weight limit to them.
When you cook, you can carry a variety of meals on your Inventory which will allow you to shuffle them. NOTE: Cooked meals provide better effects than raw ingredients. Try to minimize the consumption of Apples, Mushrooms, and the like and save them for cooking once accessible.
