Runes in No Rest For The Wicked are abilities that allow the player to execute different types of unique offensive attacks from the Weapons that they wield. Skills can often be changed when the player equips a different weapon, though there are some requirements that players might need to be able to wield a specific weapon. Runes can be extracted from the Weapon that they are automatically attached to, and then re-attached to a different weapon altogether, allowing players to have a variety of different move sets. This page provides players with a list of all the Runes in the game as well as which Weapons they can be found on.
No Rest For The Wicked All Runes
What are Runes in No Rest For the Wicked
Runes in the game are both items and special moves that can be granted to a Weapon. Most Weapons will have at least one Rune automatically slotted that is appropriate for that Weapon type. White or Common items will have four Rune slots, allowing you to pool all the best Runes into one Weapon should you wish to. However, higher rarity items will only have two Rune slots, trading flexibility for better passive bonuses.
Where to Get Runes in No Rest For the Wicked
Runes can be acquired through the following methods:
- Equipped with your Weapon of choice upon picking it up
- Bought from Eleanor's shop in Sacrament
- Extracted from a Weapon using Eleanor's services
Eleanor's shop can be upgraded through Danos a couple of times, which results in actual visual upgrades of her shop, as well as more wares. This includes more Runes to buy that you can then slot into your Weapons. The feature to extract Runes from Weapons will be available without upgrading her shop. However, keep in mind that extracting a Rune from a Weapon will destroy that Weapon permanently.

No Rest For the Wicked Runes Guide
How to Extract or Add Runes in No Rest For the Wicked
The feature of Rune modification will be available as soon as you reach Sacrament and complete the story quest, Sacrament (Quest). Simply head to Eleanor and choose the 'Rune' option from her menu. From there, you'll be able to choose one of your Weapons to add Runes to. As mentioned previously, you can also extract a Rune from a Weapon but this will destroy that Weapon permanently and you will not be able to use it at all. Adding or Extracting Runes does not have any other cost.
It's important to note that not all Runes can be added to all Weapons. Upon examining the Rune from your inventory you'll be able to see what type of Weapon it can be equipped to. Most Runes that add an elemental damage or passive elemental or plague effect to a Weapon can be added to any Weapon. The rest however may be specific to whether you can wield a Weapon with just one hand or you have to use both hands. Either that or the Rune is specific to Staves or Bows. This is actually incredibly realistic and at least we're not limited to each type of Weapon. You can extract Runes from a sledgehammer and possibly use it on a Greatsword for example.
How to Test Out Runes in No Rest For the Wicked
Contrary to popular belief, you can actually try out the special attack that a Rune enables a Weapon to do even if you don't meet the stat requirements for the original Weapon it comes with before you permanently equip it to your Weapon of choice. To do this, you first have to extract that Rune from the Weapon. Afterward, simply add that Rune to a Weapon that you do meet the stat requirements for that the Rune is allowed to be added to. Naturally, you'll want to do this on a throwaway Weapon or a Weapon you don't mind getting permanently destroyed. If you do end up liking the unique ability, you can just extract the Rune, destroying the throwaway Weapon permanently, and then add it to your Weapon of choice. If you don't end up liking it for now, you can just store that Weapon for when you find a suitable Weapon to add the Rune to.
